Information on Asian Elephants
Weighing in at a enormous 2700 kilograms(5952.481 pounds)and an average of 2.55 metres tall(8.366142 feet), the Asian elephant is truly a giant of the Asian forests and grasslands.
However, the Asian Elephant population has decreased by over 50% during the past three generations. In 2003 the estimated population of Asian Elephants was between 41,000 - 52,000 individuals. Now,(2016) it is estimated to be between 30,000 - 50,000 individuals, one-tenth of the African Elephant population.

Human Elephant Conflict(HEC) has been the major cause for the population of Asian Elephants. Because Asian Elephants and humans live in the same area HEC is a very common issue. HEC is when there is a competition for space or a raid on a site developed by humans and humans attempt to defend their property. The result is not only injury to the elephant, but injury to humans as well.
Currently, Elemotion and Born Free are involved in seperate HEC programs. One of the goals of the program is to educate children of the ways to reduce the impact of HEC by giving them a more valuable education and educating them about HEC at an early age.
